Central Asia Dorm Repairs
This dorm needs to have all of the bathrooms on the main floor and basement replaced, plumbing work, repairs exterior wood, 8 windows replaced, flooring updated, and exterior sealing.
Problem:
1. Flooring: The floors are cracking and warped. They’re rated for 5 years, but we’ve been using them for about 10.
2. Exterior Walls: There are some walls that leak during heavy rain storms.
3. Bathrooms: The dorm bathrooms have leaked as pipes and drains have loosened over the years. The bathrooms were built as Korean style wet baths.
4. Windows: The original windows have contributed to leaking in this dorm. Most of the handles have also broken and many cannot be opened.
Solution:
1. Flooring: We plan to lay a lightweight concrete to replace the foam supports for the floor heating and re-lay new flooring.
2. Exterior Walls: We plan to caulk, treat, and seal the exterior walls. There are also some portions of wood that need to be repaired.
3. Bathrooms: We plan to replace the bathroom tile with panels and update the plumbing and drains as needed.
4. Windows: We plan to replace the remaining windows in all buildings with a higher quality product designed to withstand the weather we experience on the island.
Cost:
1. Flooring: We are still getting bids for this step of the project.
2. Exterior Walls: We anticipate the exterior treatment to be $2,500 (U.S.) for this dorm, but are still receiving bids for this and the wood repair.
3. Bathrooms: It will cost about $20,000 (U.S.) to renovate the four bathrooms that most need repaired in this dorm 3. Costs to repair plumbing would be separate as needed.
4. Windows: The remaining 18 windows that need to be replaced in this building will cost $18,000 (U.S.).

July 2023: Bid Received for Bathroom Renovation
There is only one company on Jeju Island that can do the type of bathroom renovation that we have planned. It will cost about $5,000 USD to repair each bathroom. We plan to renovate four of the six bathrooms in this dorm. Here is a picture they sent with their bid.
June 2023: Damage to Exterior
Over the years the logs of our log cabin style dorms warp and crack. One corner of this dorm has been damaged due to rain and rot.
March 2023: The Rodgers are Moving to Jeju in 2024
Meet the Rodgers family. They have been serving as career missionaries with Word of Life Korea since 2017. They have had a close relationship with WOLKO since 2005 and met in Korea in 2008.
The Rodgers will be moving onto campus from the Mainland after a portion of the Central Asia Dorm is converted into an apartment suitable for a family of 7.
Jeremy will continue serving as WOLKO Business Administrator, teach at the Bible Institute, and together the Rodgers will use their apartment for staff and student care and counseling.
