East Asia Dorm Repairs
For the past 13 years over 300 students and thousands of campers have attended the Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) Jeju Campus in Korea. With the help of volunteers who gave and personally came to build, God gave us a beautiful campus. The second building built was the East Asia Dorm. It has three floors. The top two floors fit about 20 students (and 20 more campers during 6 weeks of camp). In the walk-out basement are two small apartments for staff.
PROBLEM: Over the years, as the log houses have settled, the old-style water pipes have leaked, causing water damage and mold in the bottom two floors. This has damaged ceiling, walls and floors in the central part of the building and some minimal structural damage. (Click pictures to enlarge)
SOLUTION: First, we will hire help to 1. Remove all materials that are beyond repair, 2. Clean and remove mold from the damaged area, 3. Replace the old pipes with a newer, more secure pipe system, 4. Replace damaged joists, ceiling, and interior walls. 5. Replace cracked flooring with lightweight concrete.
COST: The cost for materials and labor to complete this job is approximately $63,000 USD. Just a couple of weeks ago, we were able to empty this building to prepare it for repairs. We are trusting God to supply the funds for this need by December 5, so the repairs can be made by January 3 when winter camp begins. We plan to keep you updated on how this project is going here on this site with pictures and info.
Along with this project, we will have a company come in and replace our small bathrooms from a tile system to a wall panel system that will work better with the heavy use these bathrooms get. We will be replacing 4 bathrooms in the top two floors of the East Asia Dorm which will cost $5000 USD each or an additional $20,000 USD.
